Ethnographic Terminalia 2011: Field, Studio, Lab
This year’s Ethnographic Terminalia exhibition took place in Montreal, Canada, and was themed ‘Field, Studio, Lab’. I was commissioned to produce an artwork responding to the other pieces in the show, resulting in ‘We Have Never Been Modern’, a cardboard box that transforms into the Tate Modern gallery, and explores the role of the art gallery/museum within society. The work uses fragments of text from the abstracts of the other artworks, as well as imagery from within the Tate itself and from various other sources, to investigate the idea of ‘what is art’ today.
